COSCO France was created in 1991 as the agent representing COSCO in France within the frame of the deployment of regular shipping lines linking Europe to China and the South-East Asia. 

In constant search of opportunities, new lines were progressively open to the East Coast of the United States, to the Gulf of Mexico, West Africa and Israel.

In 2005, the activites of COSCO linked to the transport of containerized cargo were transfered into an affiliate company 100% owned by the COSCO Group, named COSCO Container Lines or COSCON.

In February 2016, after the merger of COSCO with China Shipping, the total fleet of China COSCO Shipping comprises of 1114 vessels with a capacity of 85.32 million DWT, ranking No.1 in the world. Its container fleet capacity is 1.58 million TEU, ranking number four in the world.
